Having a hard time sleeping at night and don't know why? Many things can cause your sleep to be restless or even impossible. Our ten tips for better sleep will help end your restless nights and get you back to sleeping full night and waking up refreshed.

1. Get a Better Night's Sleep by Creating a Comfortable Space

Is your room comfortable? Do you have high thread count sheets, blackout curtains and the perfect mattress? It's important for a good night sleep to invest in your comfort.

2.  A Great Mattress is the Start of Any Good Night's Sleep

If your mattress is old and worn out it is not going to provide you as a good a night's sleep as a newer mattress does. Sleeping on an old worn out bed will make you more likely to shift in your sleep causing pressure or even pain instead of a restful night's sleep. 3. Put Down the Phone

Once you are in your bedroom all electronics including your phone should be turned off. Research suggests that the light from media devices inhibits both falling and staying asleep.

4.  Stress Less

We all have stressful lives these days and that can cause havoc on your sleep. List tasks for the next day before you go to bed to help declutter your mind and allow your body a restful night's sleep.

5. Allergy Mitigation

Sleep with your window closed and use mattress and pillow covers to help keep allergens from affecting your sleep. When cleaning your home use a vacuum with an HEPA filter and put an air purifier in your bedroom to help reduce the number of allergens in the air of your home.

6. Snacking and Drinking Before Bed are Bad

Make sure your last meal or snack is at least an hour before bed to avoid sleeping on a full stomach. Caffeine and alcohol can keep you awake; make sure to learn your own personal tolerance for how long before bed you should stop drinking them.

7. Create a Bedtime Routine

Make sure even on the weekends you keep the same bedtime routine to help your body ensure you get the best night's sleep every night. One tip to helping you fall asleep is to take a warm bath, listen to soothing music or read a book.

8. Exercise Does a Body Good

Exercise will energize your body and mind, so it's important to make sure you do all physical activities early in the day to prevent this from keeping you awake.

9. Stop Daylight

Make sure to get outside in the sun for at least a few minutes in the morning and avoid bright light in the evening to keep your circadian rhythms in sync. In the summer, this can be very challenging with the sun staying bright well into the evening. This is where blackout curtains can come in very useful.

10. Cool it Down

Keep your bedroom between 65-70 degrees and use room darkening curtains/shades to keep your room cool year around. Cooler rooms provide a more restful night's sleep as your body is more comfortable in a cool room.
