The first Wednesday in April is National Walking Day. Springtime is the perfect time of year to wake up from your winter hibernation and get moving more. Moving more doesn’t have to be hard; it just needs to become a habit. Here are 10 ways to move more and enjoy it!
Get a Walking Buddy
Set up a regular walking date with a co-worker, a family member, a friend, a neighbor, or your dog!
Walk and Talk
Whether it’s a long conference call for work, your weekly best friend catch-up, or a daily check-in with your mother – talk while you walk!
Take a Lunchtime Walk
Get away from your desk and enjoy the warmer, springtime weather. Breaks have been shown to increase productivity and creativity!
Walk While You Work
Instead of sitting in a conference room, gather your colleagues and host a walking meeting.
Don’t Let the Weather Get You Down
Take the stairs, walk indoors or walk while running errands. Did you know the average American Furniture Warehouse distribution center showroom is 177,000 square feet?
Keep It Interesting
Subscribe to a new podcast series or download an audiobook. Get the incentaHEALTH app and go on a guided walk with one of our Health Coaches for extra motivation!
Get a Physical Activity Tracker
Set daily step goals and track it with a physical activity tracker. For added motivation, create a step competition with a friend or family member.
Rethink the Drive
Do you commute by train or bus? Get off a stop or two early. Need to run errands close to home? Ditch the car and walk instead.
Seize Every Oppotunity
Try parking further away in the parking lot. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk to talk to your coworker instead of sending the email. Little opportunities for more movement can add up!
Set a Reminder
Set a reminder on your phone every hour during the day to get up and move a little!
